Goose Eggs – Various Sizes
These eggs are gently washed with Ivory soap and water; then a baking soda paste if necessary
The measurement listed is from the drain hole and around the egg top to bottom in 1/8″ increments.
Drain holes will be on the bottom of the egg (wider end). If you require the hole at the top or side, please email me and I can try to accommodate. (No price difference for eggs drilled at top)
Geese start laying around late February, early March and continue to about mid-May. A goose can lay up to 30 eggs per year. We never let her lay that many as it depletes alot of calcium and body fat to produce so many eggs. Early in the season we collect them because they are usually not fertile and it is so cold we don’t want them to go broody and sit in extreme temperatures. They stop eating and drinking regularly and that also takes alot of the warm body fat. Sooo….we have a small flock and let the “girls” give us about 10 to 15 eggs each and then when its warm they sit on eggs and raise some babies!
Here is another cool fact….A goose and gander usually pair off for life…awwww….they are really good parents and keep track of their “kids” for up to 2 years. Daddy won’t let his daughter court or pair off with another gander until she is almost 2 years old! It is really funny to watch this too. We watched Frank and Judy with their daughter growing up…when Jerry approached his daughter he would run him off and chase him far….he persisted over and over and tried to feed his girlfriend, fuss over her when her dad wasn’t around. And one day when she was old enough, he let him into the pack! They have raised their own gosslings too…grandma Judy and grandpa Frank cooed over their grandchildren and it was amazing!
We have 4 distinct groups/families of geese. They are really smart and stay apart from each other until they have young that integrate into each others groups…Jerry was from a different group…now the families agree with each other now that their kids are together…quite fun to watch all this.
